During this crazy time of quarantine, we have been digging deep to find ways to entertain but also educate the girls. Tie-dye clothing is currently a hot trend, so I thought why not make our own shirts. It is a great opportunity to teach color combos, use our creativity in designing and ultimately have fun! Here is my Kid friendly and quick tie-dye how to.

For the quick version you can watch our Tik Tok how to!!
Step 1:
You can make your own Tie dye or purchase it in a prepackaged bottle. I was feeling creative, but not THAT creative. We bought this pack from Target.

You will want to wear clothes that you do not mind staining. You’ll also want to setup on a towel or area that you can stain. After setting up you’ll need items to dye!
We used old shirts, white scrunchies, bicycle shorts (the girls had stained) and even a few pair of old white underwear of the girls. I used a light gray shirt and the tie dye worked great.
Here are a few ideas, if you would like to dye something new:
Step 2:

After you’ve set up, and picked your items you’ll want to soak them in a quick water bath. Then, wring the items out!
Step 3:

Once they are wrung out, choose your desired design and start rubber banding your item!
Here are a few pattern ideas we got from our Tulip pack we used.

Step 4:

Start dying your items! WEAR GLOVES, or your hands will be colorful! You will want to be cautious of the colors you overlap. (If You don’t want muddy brown blobs). The girls loved the pink and blue mixture as well as yellow and green.
Step 5:

When you are happy with your dying pattern, keep the rubber bands in place and set your item into a plastic or zip lock baggie. Let sit for 4+ hours. The longer you let the item sit, the darker the colors will be!
Step 6:

When you are ready to unveil your design, put your gloves back on and then take off the rubber bands and run your item under water. You’ll want to keep ringing it out until the water runs clear.
Step 7:

Lastly, you will want to hang or lay your item out to dry!
That is it! You now have the knowledge to tie-dye anything!! Our girls have wanted to tie-dye every day this week! I hope you put our Kid friendly and quick tie-dye how to guide to use! If you do, tag us on Instagram!
