Creating the perfect family halloween costume, is something my husband and I look forward to doing every year! We also have a matching wagon to hold the candy, any props that the kids get tired of holding and eventually the kids. This year our costume theme is Pokemon. Today, I am going to share, how to make a Squirtle costume for halloween.

MAKING THE BODY SUIT:
I went on a hunt for a full body light aqua bodysuit and a yellow tank top leotard. We couldn’t find either. Sooo, I bought a white leotard for under $5 and a white long sleeve shirt and white leggings. Then I got crafty with some tie dye.

First, I got an aqua tie dye and poured it into a bucket. Followed the pre-soak directions and then submerged the shirt & pants into the bucket. (make sure to fully coat the pieces). After, I did the same thing with yellow and dyed the leotard. Once dyed, I placed the pieces into a ziplock bag over night. In the morning I, separately, rinsed each item until the water ran clear. Then I placed them into the washing machine. Again, You’ll do the two colors separately.

The base of your costume should be complete now. Next you’ll take the dry yellow leotard and draw lines for the turtle belly. I can not draw a straight line, with a ruler for the life of me. SOOOO, my husband did this part. He used a black sharpie & a ruler. Sharpie’s may bleed thru, you may want to put cardboard between the front and back of the leotard.

MAKING THE SHELL:
Having a ninja turtle shell laying around, may be helpful. Because, you can spray paint that to match the colors of Squirtle. If you don’t, you can make one out of cardboard, like this! My husband modified the tutorial, to be closer to Squirtle’s shell.

PUT IT ALL TOGETHER:
Once you have the shirt, pants, leotard & shell. You have your costume! If you want to do the “bad” version of Squirtle, add black shades!
